Final city

Here is the most recent version of my city, which will be projected for the final piece.  I will bring back the dimensions that were somewhat lost in the animated city, and the end product will be much bigger.

Animated city

This is a version of the animation that I projected onto the city collage background.

complete cityscape

I've added the ground and more layers, and now I'm working on the animation.

Photoshop version of projection

This is a photo of the city collage all together up on the wall
I added the sky image in Photoshop and it does not give the same feeling as when I projected it directly onto the collage. I will post a comparison photo once I get to set it up that way again.

Lots of 'analog' layers

After having chopped up the large black & white prints of
my photos, I put the pieces together to create my urban landscape.

 A closer look...

The pieces fit together like a puzzle

Building projections

Brainstorm

Agoraphobia - Any irrational fear that keeps one from going outside…

City scene (mixed media): either a large image (wall size to fill space covered by projector) with some collage prints and relief or, a city built out of foam-core with buildings drawn/collage and printed on the façade. If these ideas fail, I will simply create a partial printed/drawn landscape and create the rest of it digitally using the scanned photos/drawings.

Working elements for projection:

-Fixed background drawing on the wall is based on photos taken so I can animate digital layers to create some movements/dimension
-Animated graffiti slithering across the buildings, rich colors
-Creatures coming out of sewers
-Play with weather and sky
-Maybe ground cracking and turn into liquid
-Shadows creeping
-Maybe play with age of buildings…
-Not sure I want people, but maybe the shadows can be enough of a “presence”
-If I can figure out how it integrate video… reflections of a metro going by
-Take photos of same scenes day and night?
-Play with textures and scanned newspapers

Concepts explored/working themes:

-Attacking my own insecurities regarding my limited knowledge of the medium I need to complete the previous list of components for this project.
-Easily editing and resizing of digital world vs. the rigidity of analogue
-Fears and anxiety/panic attack
-Social phobia/agoraphobia
-Overwhelming downtown scene from a disordered perspective
-The idea of graffiti as a projection... questioning the very definition as it is no longer permanent or invasive
-Maybe printing a still of the work that was taken during the projection

Potential complications:

-Links between the digital and traditional medium/challenges involved to make it “one” piece.
-Attempting to use unfamiliar software for animation and/or video
-Probably adding sound (again, new to me)
